Pittsburgh Museums Offer Fun for All Ages - Pittsburgh Article

American Jewish Museum                                                                                                                            Located in the Jewish Community Center (JCC) of Pittsburgh’s Squirrel Hill neighborhood, the American Jewish Museum is a unique space dedicated to exploring contemporary Jewish art. The museum displays work that encourages interfaith and intergenerational dialogue about art, philosophy and culture.

Andy Warhol Museum
Dubbed “the global keeper of Andy Warhol’s legacy,” Pittsburgh’s Andy Warhol Museum houses an impression collection of the renowned artist’s work, including 900 paintings, around 100 sculptures, almost 2,000 works on paper, more than 1,000 published and other unique prints and at least 4,000 photographs. Visitors will also find other items associated with Warhol, including drawings, student work, wallpaper and books.

Carnegie Museums of Art & Natural History
Containing two museums for the price of one, the Carnegie Museums of Art & Natural History in Pittsburgh have everything from “Degas to Dinosaurs,” including exhibits on ancient Egyptian culture, contemporary art and ancient human cultures. The collection houses more than 30,000 objects, including a broad range of visual arts, painting and sculpture; prints and drawings; photographs; architectural casts; renderings and models; decorative arts and design; and a variety of film, video and digital imagery.

Carnegie Science Center
With four floors of hand-on exhibits that are designed to appeal to all ages, the Carnegie Science Center is one of Pittsburgh’s top destinations, connecting science and technology with everyday life. Located on Pittsburgh’s North Shore along the banks of the Ohio River, the Carnegie Science Center hosts science workshops, planetarium shows and a variety of interactive exhibits, as well as an Omnimax theater and a two-story walk-in replica of the International Space Station!

Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh
Designed to delight and inspire the next generation, the award-winning Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh was named one of the top 15 children’s museums by Parents magazine in 2015 and includes a variety of hand-on exhibits in a three-story building located between the historic Allegheny Post Office and Buhl buildings. Exhibits include The Studio; MAKESHOP; Waterplay; Nursery; Theater and Backyard.

Fort Pitt Museum*
Located in downtown Pittsburgh at Point State Park, the Fort Pitt Museum allows visitors to step back in time to the Steel City’s birthplace and discover world-changing events that happened right here. *The Museum will be closed through Jan. 27, 2017 for updates.

Pennsylvania Trolley Museum
Since 1954 the Pennsylvania Trolley Museum has been dedicated to preserving the legacy of the historic Trolley Era for future generations. Today, the museum holds a collection of nearly 50 cars and receives more than 30,000 visitors each year. Tours begin on the hour during operating hours and include an orientation video, exhibits, a trolley ride and a history of streetcars tour. Senator John Heinz History Center
This educational institution operates in association with the Smithsonian Institution and is devoted to preserving the history of the Steel City and Western Pennsylvania. The 370,000-square-foot Heinz History Center is located in Pittsburgh’s Strip District and is involved with a wide variety of different projects, including museum exhibitions, public programs, educational opportunities and publications.

Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hall & Museum
As the nation’s only military memorial dedicated to honoring men and women from all branches of service, the Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hall & Museum is one of Pittsburgh’s most well-known landmarks. Located in a historic building that has stood in honor of our nation’s veterans since 1910, the museum provides an interesting glimpse into American military history.
